The goal of the packaging project was to choose a product and redesign it’s package. Focusing on our products purpose, brand, competitors, and audience, we had to figure out “what makes us different? Why would someone choose our product over another option?” The goal was to make the package more interesting, more eco-friendly, or more functional. I chose Bigelow Tea. The original packaging for the tea had individually foil wrapped tea bags, in a cardboard box. After creating a Pinterest board and going through a few sketches, I decided that a better package for the tea was in a tin. The tin would keep the tea bags fresh without them needing to be individually wrapped. I found the individual wrappers to be wasteful, as was the cardboard box which is immediately discarded after the tea is used. The tin would be reusable. Using Adobe Illustrator, I made a pattern of vanilla flowers to use as a background to match the teacup illustration I made. On the back of the tin, there’s instructions on how to brew the tea, and an ingredients list. After completing my vanilla tea package, I decided to keep going and repackage 3 more teas. I did a raspberry tea, a mint flavor, and a chamomile tea. I tried to keep a small color scale for this project, using only 3 colors for each tin. I wanted to give the teas a more uniform look.

After printing the labels for my tea tins, I put them on an actual container to see how they would look as a real product. In the end I was very pleased with my final design, and I plan to use my tea containers at home.
