Cute as a Button!

For this project, we had the option of making a word banner, a rubber stamp, or a set of buttons or magnets. We could get pretty creative with this assignment, because there weren't really any requirements. I was inspired by an old pencil case I had from middle school that read "Cutie Pie." It had the word "Cutie" written at the top and had a cartoon image of a pie under the word. I loved the idea of word-photo combo phrases, and I started my series of buttons. I used Adobe Illustrator to make outlines for each button and then I used a combination of shapes to create each illustration. In addition to every image I made, I also created a pattern to match. (candies for the sweet heart, stars for the night owl, and honeycomb for the busy and queen bees)

We were only supposed to make four or five buttons, but I couldn’t stop myself. I loved designing the buttons so much! I this was by far my favorite project all year! I made all of my buttons into magnets and gave some to friends as gifts. Even though the assignment is over, I think I’ll continue to make more buttons just like these. I absolutely loved this! I can’t wait to hang all of my new magnets in my locker next year!
